Masjid Al-Qiblatain Carpet

Period of Use: c. 2005–2015
Dimensions: 120 × 70 cm

This carpet originates from Masjid Al-Qiblatain (“The Mosque of the Two Qiblahs”) in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, one of the most historically significant mosques in Islam. It is revered as the site where, during the Dhuhr (afternoon) prayer on the 15th of Sha‘ban, 2 AH, the Qiblah—the direction faced in prayer—was divinely changed from Masjid Al-Aqsa (Jerusalem) to the Kaaba in Makkah.

Used within the mosque during the period between approximately 2005 and 2015, this piece embodies a living connection to a sacred space that commemorates a defining moment in Islamic history. The carpet’s pattern and texture reflect the refined craftsmanship and stylistic traditions of mosque furnishings in the early 21st-century Haramain region.

Provenance: Masjid Al-Qiblatain, Madinah, Saudi Arabia

Carpets from Masjid Al-Qiblatain are cherished for their spiritual and historical resonance. While modest in form, they serve as silent witnesses to the devotion of countless worshippers over the years. Possessing such a piece not only honors the architectural and liturgical heritage of Madinah but also evokes the enduring significance of the Qiblah change—a symbol of unity, obedience, and faith in the early Muslim community.
